The Issue: Experimenting on Poor Children

The MHS Board, saddled with conflicts of interest, stacked with persons drawn to this charity by self-enrichment goals, and lacking any members with childcare know-how, has flat-out experimented on MHS children.

The most blatant example was so-called “Springboard Academy,” an 80-child bunker that initially housed children in 20-child bedrooms!  This turned the childcare clock back one hundred years and led to shocking incidents, just as the MHS Board had been warned.  This experiment violated all childcare standards as well as the wishes of the Hershey's, who wanted children to enjoy family-like homes supervised by houseparent couples.

The “Springboard” experiment was abandoned this year, barely two years after opening, and at a loss of over $40,000,000!  This is money that should have been used for needy children and desperately poor families.  This is arguably the single biggest waste of childcare resources in history.  Yet, no one on the MHS Board is being held accountable for even one penny of it!

Who can make the difference:

Only Attorney General Tom Corbett, who refused to prevent this scandalous experiment even though he was explicitly warned about it, can compel the MHS Board stop these indefensible and shockingly wasteful experiments on needy children!

How it can be done:

Pennsylvania voters, regardless of party affiliation, can deliver a strong message to Corbett, demanding action on behalf of needy children.  Corbett is running for governor in November, he should either fix these problems before the election or be held accountable in the voting booth.
