The Issue: Pinching Pennies When It Comes To Needy Children
Despite outrageous self-enrichment, indefensible spending on luxury golf, funneling money to non-child projects such
as luxury hotel renovation, and other senseless waste, the MHS Board has said they don't have enough money to keep promises
to serve more poor children.
MHS also recently announced severe cutbacks of services to needy MHS children, including:
- Dramatically cutting wisdom teeth extraction and braces.
- Eliminating the Ski Club, Rock Climbing Club, Golf and Tennis programs, and other activities.
- Cancellation of HersheyPark Day for the kids and employees, even though the School OWNS HersheyPark!
- Radically reducing the number of field trips.
- Slashing the budget for student home summer travel to $500 for an entire group home!
- Limiting choices and options for Seniors going to college while School adminstrators get 100% tuition reimbursement.
Disturbingly, frontline staff burdens have also been increased, due to curtailed hiring, which places children at increased risk.
It is very clear that the MHS Board has its priorities completely confused.
Who can make the difference:
Only Attorney General Tom Corbett, who refuses to act, can compel the MHS Board to use stop economizing on needy children and
save money elsewhere!
How it can be done:
Pennsylvania voters, regardless of party affiliation, can deliver a strong message to Corbett, demanding action on behalf of
needy children. Corbett is running for governor in November, he should either fix these problems before the election or
be held accountable in the voting booth.
